What to Expect

Itinerary

Day 1. Khustai National Park-Khugnu Khan Natural Reserve

Today we will drive to Khustai National Park.Khustai was established in 2003. Unique wild horse – Takhi reintroduction project at Khustai National Park started in 1992. Keep drive to Elsen tasarkhai /Khugnu Khan Nature Reserve Area/ which are mountains, forests, steppes, Gobi desert and mineral water sources all in one location represents three different natural zones. Around area is nice place to hiking, climbing. You will visit to older family to explore the nomadic lifestyle and to have talking with nomads about their life and tradition. We will ride a camel to sand dunes. After dinner you have a chance to play Mongolian traditional game by ankle bones with nomads. Stay in nomadic family.

Day 2. Orkhon valley

In the morning drive to Orkhon valley. We will see Red waterfall and Mongolian the longest river which is named Orkhon by Mongolia. The waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The waterfall cascades from an impressive height of 20 meters and its width is 10 meters. Learn about their unique lifestyle and culture. There is an opportunity to ride a horse, fish, and hike.

Day 3. Eight lakes

Today we will start our three days trek through the Eight lakes. Here we will leave our vehicles and load our luggage and food on pack horses. Before horse trekking your guide will explain how to ride Mongolian horse.

Day 4. Eight lakes

Eight lakes were created by volcanic activities. It is locked between several extinct volcanoes and high mountain peaks. The lakes connected by underground. The lakes are supplied with fresh water running from the mountains. After breakfast we will pack luggage on the horse. We will ride horse to Khuist Lake. This lake is dotted with a large rock island. We will pass High Mountain and see two lakes. We will stay nomadic family. Explore the yak herder family’s lifestyle. You can help to family. For example to bring animals, chop wood, clean animal cottage, and make dairy products.
Ride horse to Shireet Lake which is the biggest lake in the valley. On the way we can see four lakes. Explore flora and fauna of the valley.

Day 5. Orkhon valley

Horseback trekking back to Bodongiin Am, on the way picnic lunch. Our vans will be waiting for us near the Buureg tourist camp. Drive to waterfall’s family. Have Mongolian traditional BBQ.

Day 6. Tsenkher Hot spring

After breakfast drive to Tsenkher hot spring. It is one of the biggest Mongolia’s hot springs, has a temperature of 86 degree with flow rate and high alkalinity and relatively high amounts of fluoride. The hot spring is mostly used for relaxing and resorting your health

Day 7. Kharakhorum

Drive to Kharakhorum, site of the 13th century capital of Mongol Empire, visit the impressive monastery, named “Erdene Zuu” by Mongolian and local museum where see the Great Mongol Empire, Stone Age, Bronze Age. The monastery was erected from the ruins of the legendary city of Kharakhorum. Visit small history museum.

Day 8. Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar

Meals

We will serve you international meals. You can have Mongolian traditional meals. For example: Steamed and fried dumplings, soups, BBQ… When you stay a nomadic family, your guide will be cooking for you. All our guides have had basic cooks training and experience. When you stay nomadic family, you can have dairy products and share your foods. Please let us know, if you have any food restrictions, or following a special diet and vegetarian and vegan.

Accommodation

We use mixture of tourist camps, local nomadic families, and tent in Mongolia depending on location and availability.

Ger camps
Tourist ger camp has gers for guests. Gers are traditional Mongolian dwellings made with wooden frames and layers of felt. The gers have wooden floors and are beautifully decorated in traditional nomadic style with hand-crafted furnishings. Ger camps is seasonal in the summer and is collapsible. Tourist ger camps have the advantage of offering restaurant dining and sanitary facility. The camps we stay at will have 4 beds per ger with mattresses, linens, and extra blankets.

Hosted by local family
Staying with local nomadic family is the best way to see real lifestyle of Mongolian nomads and discovery beautiful nature. Also, it is the best way to help for nomads. You will become member of the family. You will eat what they eat, do what they do. The nomads in Mongolia live very simply and move their cattle along the same routs their parent’s travelled hundreds of years ago. You will stay family and experience the hospitality of the nomads. They have all five animals. When you stay with them, you will ride a horse to the mountain, camel ride to the sand dunes. You can milk their goats and sheep, then try to make your cheese and yogurt in summer. Of course, they will teach everything: to make dairy products, traditional games by ankle bones and dung collection.

Depending on how many tourists. More than three people we will provide Russian or Korean Vans.
The Russian van is the most useful car in Mongolian countryside. It is very comfortable for 6 people traveling on off-road, bumpy and muddy roads.
