What to Expect

Mongolian Gobi is one of the most remote and least trodden deserts in the world. The third in the world after the Sahara, and Arabian Desert, it covers nearly one-third of Mongolia. Also it is one of the worlds the most beautiful, with mountain peaks, grasslands, desert steppes, sand dunes and oases. This tour of sunny South Gobi hits all the high notes.

  • Climbing to the top of the dunes during the sunset gives you amazing panoramic view of desert
  • Travel to the Flaming Cliffs, where legendary explorer Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first nest of dinosaur eggs

Itinerary

Day 1. Tsagaan suvraga(White Stupa)

After breakfast drive to Tsagaan suvraga(White Stupa). The name is given by local people to the impressive and legendary cliff which is eroded by natural phenomenon. It is located junction of middle gobi and south gobi provinces. Having 10 million years history, the cliff indicates different times by its colored layers. Tsagaan Suvraga(White Stupa)is interesting to see the sheer slope, facing east, which from a distance seems to be the ruins of the ancient city. Day 2. “Three beauty mountains” National Park

In the morning drive to Dalanzadgad, the capital of Umnugobi province on the way of “Three beauty mountains” National Park. The mountains are most easterly points of the Altai mountain complex and the highest peak is 2815 meter above sea level. A number of rare plants and animals are found in the park, including the elusive snow leopard. We will explore Yoliin Am (Vulture Valley). You will visit local museum and walk to end of valley. It is wonderfully picturesque place with ice even in summer, and surrounded by sheer rocky walls, forming incredible canyons.

Day 3. “Khongor” sand dunes

Drive to “Khongor” sand dunes. The shifting dunes is 180 km long, 400 m high, 20 km wide. The dunes surrounded by higher mountains and bordered lush green vegetation. Local people named “Singing dune” When the wind blows over the dunes it makes strange sound like high pitched tone of an air plane.

Day 4. “Khongor” sand dunes

After breakfast, you will visit nomadic family. You will ride a camel three hours to sand dunes. Have shower. Optional you can see sun set on the sand dunes.

Day 5. Bayan Zag

In the morning drive to Bayan Zag. It means “rich in saxaul shrubs” is more commonly known as the Flaming Cliffs. It was formed 60-70 million years ago. The area is most famous for the first discovery of dinosaur eggs. Flaming Cliffs was discovered in 1922 by the explorer Roy Chapman Andrew visited in Mongolia.

Day 6. Baga gazriin chuluu

Early morning drive to Baga gazriin chuluu. It is located in Delgertsogt small town, Dundgovi province and surrounded by plain. The highest one is 15 km long and 10 km wide granite stone-mountain elevated at 1768m above sea level. There are also over 20 kinds of medical herbs like burnet, and many kinds of world

Day 7. Ulaanbaatar

Drive back Ulaanbaatar.

Meals

We will serve you international meals. You can have Mongolian traditional meals. For example: Steamed and fried dumplings, soups, BBQ… When you stay a nomadic family, your guide will be cooking for you. All our guides have had basic cooks training and experience. When you stay nomadic family, you can have dairy products and share your foods. Please let us know, if you have any food restrictions, or following a special diet and vegetarian and vegan.

We use mixture of tourist camps, local nomadic families, and tent in Mongolia depending on location and availability.
Ger camps
Tourist ger camp has gers for guests. Gers are traditional Mongolian dwellings made with wooden frames and layers of felt. The gers have wooden floors and are beautifully decorated in traditional nomadic style with hand-crafted furnishings. Ger camps is seasonal in the summer and is collapsible. Tourist ger camps have the advantage of offering restaurant dining and sanitary facility. The camps we stay at will have 4 beds per ger with mattresses, linens, and extra blankets.
Hosted by local family
Staying with local nomadic family is the best way to see real lifestyle of Mongolian nomads and discovery beautiful nature. Also, it is the best way to help for nomads. You will become member of the family. You will eat what they eat, do what they do. The nomads in Mongolia live very simply and move their cattle along the same routs their parent’s travelled hundreds of years ago. You will stay family and experience the hospitality of the nomads. They have all five animals. When you stay with them, you will ride a horse to the mountain, camel ride to the sand dunes. You can milk their goats and sheep, then try to make your cheese and yogurt in summer. Of course, they will teach everything: to make dairy products, traditional games by ankle bones and dung collection.
