This 8-days trip covers Central Mongolian’s most iconic places: include Khustai National Park, Semi Gobi, ancient capital of Mongolian Empire-Kharakhorum, Orkhon Valley -UNESCO World Natural Heritage and one of the wildest destinations
Start your trip at 9:00 in the morning. Drive to Statue of Chinggis Khaan which is the biggest horse statue in the world. We will visit small museum. Keep drive to Terelj National Park. Terelj about 80km north-east of Ulaanbaatar, is a deservedly popular destination. At 1600m, the area is cool and the alpine scenery is magnificent and green meadows carpeted with Edelweiss and a dazzling variety of other wild flowers attract nature lovers in summer. The park has many rock formations for rock climbers, and includes two famous formations named for things they resemble: Turtle Rock (Mongolian: Melkhii Khad) and the Old Man Reading a Book (Praying Lama Rock). We will visit local family for have lunch. We will hike to small meditation temple.
Today we will drive to Khustai National Park. Khustai was established in 2003. Unique wild horse – Takhi reintroduction project at Khustai National Park started in 1992. Keep drive to Elsen tasarkhai /Khugnu Khan Nature Reserve Area/ which are mountains, forests, steppes, Gobi Desert and mineral water sources all in one location represents three different natural zones. Around area is nice place to hiking, climbing. You will visit to older family to explore the nomadic lifestyle and to have talking with nomads about their life and tradition. We will ride a camel to sand dunes. After dinner you have a chance to play Mongolian traditional game by ankle bones with nomads. Stay in nomadic family.
Drive to Red Waterfall in Orkhon Valley. It was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The waterfall cascades from an impressive height of 20 meters and its width is 10 meters. Excursion to the beautiful Orkhon Waterfall. Hiking and photo session along the river. Free day. After breakfast visit a yak herder’s family. Learn about their unique lifestyle and culture. There is an opportunity to ride a horse, fish, and hike.
After breakfast drive to Tsenkher hot spring. It is one of the biggest Mongolia’s hot springs, has a temperature of 86 degree with flow rate and high alkalinity and relatively high amounts of fluoride. The hot spring is mostly used for relaxing and resorting your health.
Early morning drive to Khorgo Terkhiin tsagaan nuur National Park. On the way we will see Chuluut gorge. Extinct volcanic craters, pine-clad lava fields and the occasional herd of grazing yaks, the Great White Lake, as it’s known in English, is the natural highlight of Arkhangai province. There is an opportunity to hiking and fishing. The volcano is 2210 m above sea level. Rocks and canyons around the mountain are odd in shape and caves in it provide many shelters. The volcano crater with a width of 200 m, depth of 70-80 m and a slope of 30-36 degree is on extreme north. It is surrounded by 33 volcanoes. Rivers such as Suman, Gichgene and Chuluut flowing through the volcanoes make the zone attractive. White lake is located near the Khorgo volcano. It was formed by north and south Terkh Rivers which took its origin from Khangai Mountain Range in an area blocked by the volcano lavas. The lake is 16 km long, 6 km wide and 20 m deep. It is 2060 m above sea level covering 61 km square area. Over 10 rivers flow into the lake the largest of which is Terkh River. The only river takes its origin from the lake is Suman River which flows into Chuluut River after flowing for about 50 m. On the island in a middle of the lake birds lay eggs
Drive to Kharakhorum, site of the 13th century capital of Mongol Empire, visit the impressive monastery, named “Erdene Zuu” by Mongolian and local museum where see the Great Mongol Empire, Stone Age, Bronze Age. The monastery was erected from the ruins of the legendary city of Kharakhorum. Visit small history museum. Stay in Local Camp.
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar
