The main festival organize during the first weekend of October by the Mongolian Eagle Hunters’ Association near Ulgii. There are about 250 eagle hunters around Bayan Ulgii province. Every year almost 100 eagle hunters participate Golden Eagle Festival with their trained eagle.

This morning you’ll drive to the site of Golden Eagle Festival attend the opening ceremony and participants join the parade on horse ride with their eagles. The competition begins with each Kazakh displaying his hunting outfit and accessories. The most elaborate and beautiful clothing and accessories are given the highest points. Lunch will be served in a ger at the festival grounds. In the afternoon, the Golden Eagles will be evaluated for their speed and agility. In the evening watch a Kazakh concert consisting of traditional songs and dances.
The impressive Golden Eagle Festival continuous for a second day of competition. Prepare for some exciting action today! The Golden Eagles will be released from a cliff to attack fox skins that will be dragged by their owner on horseback. The eagles will be judged on their success of grabbing the “fox”, their speed, and “gripping” technique. As the points for the competitions are being tallied, the Kazakhs will compete in their traditional game called “kekbar”- passing goat skin which tests one’s horse-riding skills, strength and agility. In the late afternoon, the winners of the festival will be announced at the awards ceremony. Drive to the village of Sogog to stay with an eagle-hunter family.
Today we have a full day for great experience of a local eagle hunter family. Eagle teaching training with Eagle hunter every day, riding horseback along with the hunter as he explores the mountains in every direction in search of prey. He is one of the most famous and experience eagle-hunters in the region. Rahmbek has been hunting for more than 30 years and now he focuses on passing the craft onto the next generation of hunters.
