Itinerary

Feb-12-Day 1. Kharakhorum

After breakfast drive to the small town of Kharakhorin in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Orkhon Valley. Kharakhorin was the site of Karakorum, the 13th century capital of the Mongolian Empire. Visit Mongolia’s oldest monastery, 16th century Erdene Zuu, home to some of the nation’s most profound art and architecture. After exploring Kharakhorin, spend the night at local guesthouse

Feb-13-Day 2. Orkhon Valley

Drive to Orkhon Waterfall. It was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The waterfall cascades from an impressive height of 20 meters and its width is 10 meters.

Feb-14-Day 3. Orkhon valley

Free day. After breakfast visit a yak herder’s family. Learn about their unique lifestyle and culture. We will ride horses to waterfall.

Feb-15-Day 4. Hugnu Han Natural Reserve/Eve-Bituun/

Drive to Hugnu Han Natural Reserve which is mountains, forests, steppes, Gobi desert and mineral water sources all in one location represents three different natural zones. Around area is nice place to hiking, climbing.  We will visit local herders and experience the hospitality of the nomads. Today is Bituun, Tsagaan Sar Eve, is a day of preparation. The family cleans the ger (nomadic dwelling) and makes sure that everything starts the New Year full: piles of firewood, containers of flour, and, with the evening feast, everyone’s stomachs.

Feb-16-Day 5. Hugnu Han Natural Reserve

On Shiniin Negen, the first day of Tsagaan Sar, families rise early to greet the year’s first sunrise. Then, people greet each other in a tradition called zolgolt, in which the younger person holds the older person’s arms in a symbol of respect. During the greeting ceremony, family members hold long pieces of colored cloth called khadag. After the ceremony, the extended family eats rice with curds, dairy products and buuz(steamed dumplings) and drinks airag(fermented mares milk).

Feb-17-Day 6. Khustai National Park -Ulaanbaatar

Today we will drive to Khustai National Park.  Khustai was established in 2003. Unique wild horse – Takhi reintroduction project at Khustai National Park started in 1992. Keep drive to Ulaanbaatar. /B,L/
